Tucked away in a valley of skyscrapers lies an oasis of traditional Chinese culture. The Nan Lian Gardens at the Chi Lin Nunnery are a breath of fresh air and a sure way to clear your head after the hustle of Hong Kong's city life. Just a brief walk from the Diamond Hill MTR station, it is hard to believe such an archetypal tribute to Tang-Dynasty style architecture still exists.
As Jamie and I walked the garden paths and visited the still functioning Buddhist Nunnery perched above the grounds, I couldn't help but think of the words of James Hilton in Lost Horizon. This serenity even managed to drown out the inevitable fate of contemporary culture (the selfie), albeit momentarily.
